This collection of stories, which introduces Raffles the dilettante jewel thief and his faithful partner "Bunny", is more enjoyable for the well described Victorian settings and colorful English characters than the somewhat tame capers they attempt. Those who enjoy Masterpiece Theater for the dialogue and period mannerisms will probably like this book, but others may also since it moves faster and is more light-hearted than most Victorian literature.Product details

Raffles further adventures of the amateur cracksman E W 18661921 Hornung 9781171599371 Books Reviews
I enjoyed this immensely. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle himself could have been proud to have authored this splendid collection of tales.
The tales were interesting. The end was abrupt and left me unsatisfied. I read it because I'd heard it was an early example of the style.
As with the others I own very well written, great characterization enjoyable read !
I think Raffles has a good heart, but clearly a criminal mind. I enjoy reading detective novels of that period and this was an enjoyable change in view. I thought it was as well written as any of the Sherlock Holmes novels.
Raffles and Bunny work their way through a series of increasingly perilous adventures. Raffles, "The Amateur Cracksman" commits crimes to survive financially and maintain a certain prestige within society. Bunny, his companion, who is frequently as nervous as his namesake, faithfully captures the pair's deeds.
This book is a reproduction (including printing errors) of a book originally published in 1907. It collects short stories about A.J. Raffles, "The Amateur Cracksman". Raffles is a gentleman and a cricket player, who supports himself by carrying out ingenious burglaries. His stories are told by his accomplace "Bunny". There are eight stories here, ending with a story in which Raffles and Bunny are finally arrested. That was probably the author's attempt to end the series, but he later wrote more Raffles stories due to popular demand. These stories are quite entertaining.
You've got to love Raffles, and his and Bunnys relationship is much like Holmes and Watson. It's a fun read, and Raffles makes such a lovable rake its hard to do anything but cheer for him.
This collection of stories, which introduces Raffles the dilettante jewel thief and his faithful partner "Bunny", is more enjoyable for the well described Victorian settings and colorful English characters than the somewhat tame capers they attempt.
