Coping with Sudden Multiple Losses

Jill Kraft Thompson had a life filled with love an adoring husband, two young precious sons, a devoted mother, and a close extended family. Then in 2002 she lost her five closest family members in a car crash that she herself barely survived. She awoke to a world she hardly recognized and a well of grief so deep she often had neither the strength nor the desire to continue living. While over time her physical injuries healed, her emotional wounds did not and she struggled to accept that they never would. Upon cultivating a series of coping strategies, however, she found the courage to risk love, marriage, and motherhood again, demonstrating the triumph of love over unspeakable tragedy.

In Jill’s own words “I dedicate this book to all who have suffered through grief. Whether it comes in a great mass or a minute spore, one must honor grief with thought, perseverance, and understanding so that grief transforms into strength instead of manifesting as endless grief.”

“If you have experienced a significant loss, Jill's story can help you on your journey of healing.”
—Bernie Siegel, MD Author of A Book of Miracles and Faith, Hope and Healing

“If you’re wondering where and how to begin to rebuild your life after a loved one’s death, this book is a must read.”
—Rebecca Hauder, RN, MEd, LCPC, LMFT Author of The Nature of Grief and owner of Resources for Grief

“Jill could not have shown us how to grieve and survive our losses any better. The word that emerges through it all is hope.”
—Bob Deits Author of Life after Loss and coauthor of When Your Grandma Forgets (Helping Children Cope with Alzheimer’s and Beyond

My son died suddenly at age 24, nine years ago, and I began a journey no parent wants to take.
I had heard of this tragedy (Jill's family) before she wrote the book, and wondered how
someone could take the pain of losing a child, and multiply it times 5. The book was a page turner.
A bravely written story, and one that I'm sure was difficult to relive in the telling of it.
I admire the way Jill shared the torment she went through, sinking to the bottom and wanting
to be with her family. I admire her brave walk, steps forward and steps backward, which is normal
for those who are grieving. I admire her ability and strength to
move on to marry again, years later, and to have a child again. I love the way she describes leading
parallel lives--- what a strong husband she found who "got" it--- that her first love, husband,
would always be a part of her heart, her family, and she could love equally again with her 2nd husband.
The book describes her brave decision to have another child, a boy again, and how he was still the brother to her
other two sons, and they were all one family. I also appreciate her sharing the struggle with the questions about where was
God in her life, why didn't He prevent the accident, or spare her children and family? --- and how she eventually
came to terms with where tragedy fits in the grand scheme of her religious view and her faith. She still has
a strong faith and relationship with God. I am the facilitator of the local Compassionate
Friends support group for bereaved parents. I found the book helpful for me personally, and it will be helpful
to those that I mentor. If you ever lost a loved one and grieved deeply, I recommend this book. And if you
are so fortunate as to not had that experience yet, I recommend this book as a way to understand what others go
through, and to find out ways you can be there for that person.

Finding Jill How I Rebuilt My Life after Losing the Five People I Loved Most edition by Jill Kraft Thompson Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews

Jill opened her life up to readers in a real, honest way. I was pulled into her story from the first page and stand in awe of how well she communicated her story. In spite of the tragedy, she found strength to overcome many obstacles and find a way through it all. This is a must-read for anyone dealing with loss. Jill is proof that with God's help and a lot of courage, one can navigate through the most terrible circumstances and come out on the other side to help others do the same. Order more than one copy....you will think of others to share this book with. I did.
Such an inspiring story. Everyone should read this!
Jill has survived an unimaginable tragedy that not many people will face. Her open, honest approach of conveying each step of her grief recovery is something likely to become a wonderful resource for anyone in the midst of loss of any kind and a helpful perspective to all those wanting to help them through. Thank you, Jill. I admire your strength, courage and faith.
A wonderful read about a very wonderful woman.
I went to school with 2 of Jill's older sisters so had heard about the accident via hometown friends. I too have lost a son and a husband and although my circumstances were a bit different, I felt a connection with Jill because of her loss. She is correct, pain is pain. I applaud Jill for sharing her story, her fears, her pain and most of all the beauty she has found in life again. God Bless.
This is a very sad, yet touching story of Jill Kraft, who lost her husband, Mother, and children in a car accident in Italy, while there were living there for a year. It is a good book for anyone dealing with the stages of grieving, but also a good read for anyone. You will really get into Jill's life, and her recovery from this awful tragedy. It was very sad, but also heartwarming.
Some people may shy away from this story because it is so heart breaking, but I encourage people to give it a try. Jill is so honest about her feelings and struggles & that is why I recommend it. It is also a wonderful tribute to her family. Yes I had to compose myself a few times to get through it, but this is a book that I am so glad I 'experienced'. It makes you look at things in your life with a different perspective - I highly recommend it.
